N-methylaniline

CAS Number 100-61-8
Formula: C6H5NHCH3

The main purpose of N-methylaniline is the formation of required proknock properties of gasoline during its production. Moreover, the octane number and ecological compatibility of the product are regulated by MMA. These two factors have made N-methyl aniline one of the most popular multifunctional additives.

N-methylaniline — 1 % of the total additive increases the octane number
from 8 to 12 units, depending on the starting product.

N-methylaniline advantages

Use of additives of this kind has a number of advantages:
  • In comparison with other octane-increasing additives MMA is required seven times less, what allows to cut down transportation costs and to increase competitiveness;
  • 1% of the additive of total amount increases the octane number from 8 to 10 units, depending on the initial product
  • At the correct use of monomethylaniline premium-95 gasoline, which properties satisfy with all existing state standards;
  • The product allows to reduce number of harmful emissions to the atmosphere at combustion, reduces consumption of fuel by 5-6%;
  • With the additive addition gasoline becomes more stable, so, a user will choose it.

Laboratory tests of NMA

Patterns of gasoline recipes:

Regular 92 + 1,3 % of NMA = Premium 95
Premium 95 + 1,5 % of NMA = Super 98

Recipe of Premium 95 (AI-95)

Weight 400 g of Regular gasoline that is equal to 98,7 % of total mass and add 5,3 g of NMA, equal to 1,3 % of total mass. Pour the additive carefully into gasoline and stir thoroughly till homogeneous mass. Evaluate the octane number by motor and researchmethods.

Recipe of Super 98 (AI-98)

Weight 400 g of Premium gasoline that is equal to 98,5 % of total mass and 6,1 of NMA, equal to 1,5 % of total mass. Pour the additive carefully into gasoline and stir thoroughly till homogeneous mass. Make the evaluation of octane number both by motor and by research methods. The maximum concentration of ADA in gasoline is 1,5 %.

Mixing Technology of gasoline and NMA

The technology of mixing together of NMA and NMA based boosters and gasoline is similar to the process of mixing of all motor fuels components. However, it is important to keep in mind that density of additive is higher than density of fuels. In case of blending is insufficient, the concentration of booster in the lower part of the tank will be higher than in the upper part of the tank.

The calculated amount of booster is poured from tanks into gasoline tanks and properly stirred.

To obtain the homogeneous fuel while compounding of additive with initial raw material use the following methods:

  • mix the mass by pumping from one tank to another;
  • bubble thru with dry inert gas, - i.e. nitrogen;
  • blend by pump inside of the tank.
